5 Healthy habbits when studying

We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control

~Pink Floyd – Another brick in the Wall~

These days I am kinda busy – you know, exams are close. I think everybody felt at least once that there are too many things to do and the time just isn’t enough, so one post about time management and good practices when studying should be useful.

Create a good environment! If you can go to library and stay there it is very good – there you have the motivation and the atmosphere that helps you concentrate better. Of course, there are cases when you can’t use that space – for example if you have something to talk you can’t do it there. Your room can be a good solution too, but here you have more temptations Continue reading

Different degrees of honesty and one exemple for each

And the reason for my confession is that I learn my lesson
And I really think you ought to know the truth
Because I lied and I cheated and I lied a little more
But after I did it I don’t know what I did it for
I admit that I have been a little immature

~Black Eyed Peas – Don’t lie~

I try to be as sincere as I can and I strongly believe that sincerity is the key for solving most of humanity’s problems. If only Adam hadn’t lied to God … or for the ones less religious, if only politicians wouldn’t lie so much!

But there are too many complicated situations to tell only the truth. You have to be diplomat, not to hurt the people you love or to get that raise that will allow you to buy a new shiny car. So we arrive to dr. House’s “Everybody lies” (you really should watch that show). Yes, but what’s the measure? When to tell the truth and when it’s safe to tell a lie? Another of my strong beliefs is that equilibrium brings us one step closer to happiness. In this case, it’s all about balance between truth and lie.

But you can’t say there’s only truth; there are big lies, lies, little lies, joking, truth, the big truth. Continue reading

What should I do to succeed, part 1: fixing goals

Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want

~Spice Girls – Wannabe ~

Apart from tones of hours of work and a little bit of luck, one important ingredient in the success’ recipe is organization – fix your objectives, divide your project on steps and work hard. I’m the adept of planing stuff – how to spend my money, what to visit in holiday, how to get the job I want? I admit, I prefer to organize the most pleasant activities (but I’m working at that) and I’m working in the last minute for the assignments I don’t like, but if I want to change that I strongly believe that only a good schedule can save me.

credits photo

But what’s a good schedule, what are its characteristics? Many projects, interesting in idea, fail in the end because of the organization. Maybe you think that an enterprise’s strategy is completely different from the home management, but both are governed by the same rules – only the context is different.

And so I arrive at the first point in setting goals – evaluate your situation. In order to obtain something in future it’s very important to know exactly your position. What are your advantages and what are your disadvantages? What can you use? There are people you can count on? What kind of resources you have and how many? Be honest when you answer at all these questions, if you don’t evaluate right the context you have less chances in achieving your goals. This and knowing as accurate as you can what do you want are the main two qualities of purposes.

Credits photo

So the next step after you know your situation is to question yourself about what do you really want? What’s really important for you and what you can give up to? Set your priorities! The science of economy considers that the needs of humanity are unlimited whereas the resources are limited. You know your resources, how will you spend them? What are you willing to renounce to in order to get what you want? Don’t forget to answer sincere to not be disappointed afterwards. Here is good to fix some limits too. Don’t renounce at all your free time for your job, don’t sacrifice all your economies for a trip, even if it’s around the world, don’t forget about your friends for a girl/boy you’ve just met!

Now you know what you want and what’s your situation. How should you get where you want? There is short term and long term and you have already an image of your long term. Divide your idea on steps. Fix an amount of time and money for each step. Leave yourself the possibility of error but try to do a realistic estimation. Work a lot if you want to make your dreams come true. Motivate yourself from once in a while – take short breaks (1-2 days) from your activity or relax a bit and admire your realizations. Your goals must be reachable. Everyone wants to fly but they don’t make a goal out of this simply because … it’s not possible. Concentrate on realistic purposes.

Another think I should talk about is the schedule’s trap – if it’s written down it doesn’t mean it has to be that way. You have set your goals and you can reset them. Leave some space for innovation and for improvisation. Enjoy the moment and … good luck in living your dreams!

4 things to do when it’s raining

Sunny days
Where have you gone?
I get the strangest feeling when you belong.
Why does it always rain on me?

~Travis – Why does it always rain on me?~

You casually look out the window and when you see the beautiful weather outside you feel like going outside and enjoying yourself. If it’s sunny out you get in a ‘sunny’ mood. If it’s windy then you’re probably going to be a bit agitated and anxious. But it’s by far the worst when it’s raining. If you’re like most people, you’ll feel apathetic, always tired and you could just sleep forever. The weather has a strong impact on people’s moods and you should keep that in mind whenever you organize your schedule.

Let’s say it’s raining for 2 days now. You’re already very tired, you miss your bed even though you’ve got up 5 minutes ago and you are so bored … What can you do? Continue reading

Is reading really for dorks?

I read your book
And I find it strange
That I know that girl and I know her world
A little too well~Sheryl Crow – The book~

When we started writing this blog, for the first article we had only two comments – one of them stated that reading is for dorks and after reading the article Andrei has written, I’ve got to a point when I must ask myself and I must ask you – is reading really for dorks?

I think that now is the moment to try another type of article – educational, of course, but in other ways. If until now we gave some tricks to improve your life, how about some ideas to clear your thoughts? I don’t say you have to agree, but I’d like to know your opinions on different subjects.

speech

When preparing an argumentation, you have to keep in mind some some very important points. Weather it’s a speech, an written essay or you’re simply thinking to discuss with your parents or friends and to sustain a point of view, respect the following rules and you’ll have more chances to be successful. Sure, for oral presentation is better to keep in mind what I’ve written here.

But first of all, what is an argumentation? An argumentation is a text or a speech that sustains an idea, that takes sides for something. So the first thing you have to do is to identify the idea you want to affirm. That may seem redundant but it’s a very important step. Write down the main idea and then when you’re building the argument verify if your arguments links with that idea.

Healthy alimentation – it’s really that difficult to follow a schedule?

One of Murphy’s laws says that anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening. Doing what you enjoy most is often not so good for your health, physically or spiritually, so here are some simple rules to improve your life. I think that you have already realized that it’s not so simple to change your habits. After each disappointment you keep saying – I gonna change and that won’t happen again, but after a while your determination isn’t so strong.
Maybe it will sound like a cliché, but you have to change your life by doing very small steps. I’ll talk now about eating habits and I promise to continue this series about healthy habits.
Be very careful at what you’re eating. Sure that fast food is cheap and tasty, but you have to take into consideration its effects on your health. To continue with this idea, pay attention to sweets too. Drinking alcohol is fun, but be sure you know your limits and don’t make any abuses.
When thinking at meals, keep in mind that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You need energy for all your plans so have some cereals, milk and maybe some fruit. If you’re hungry between meals, you can have another fruit or some biscuits. Try not to eat so much in the evening – you’ll sleep better.
Then, it’s very important to have your meals at certain hours and to make a rule out of this. By doing that, you can organize your time better and follow a schedule that keeps you healthy.
In order to reduce drastically your visits to the hospital, consume every day 5-10 fruits or vegetables. Also don’t forget the milk and cereals, potatoes or bread for fibers and the meat for proteins. Once or twice a week have fish to keep your brain active.

Eating healthy

Now you know the basic rules for a good nutrition, but how can you start applying them? At first, try to arrange proper hours for meals – take into consideration what tasks you have to do during the day and of course, the hours when you’re hungry. Than think – what you like to eat and what you don’t. Could you replace some dishes with other ones which are healthier? Sure you can! If you want something sweet, you can have a peach or a banana. That doesn’t mean that you have to forget about chocolate, just consume it less often.
Don’t over react. The most important thing is to find your balance. Don’t impose it to yourself, just find it. You know you have it, it’s there, inside you.

S.O.S! PEOPLE ARE LISTENING TO ME!

Help

Whether you like it or not, it is very probable that during your life you’ll have to speak in front of a crowd. This thought is kinda creepy and I’ll give you some pieces of advice to improve your performance and overcome the natural but useless fear of speaking in public..

A common belief is that imagining your auditorium naked helps. I’ll speak here about an alternative to this – gaining some self trust. The fear of speaking in public has two major causes – you do this for the first time, the fear of unknown and you depend on public’s reactions; you’re exposed. You should overcome this fear by knowing that you’re very well prepared and you’ll be successful. Continue reading

Damn, I forgot it!

Less than a week ago I was packing my bags when it occurred to me that I hear really often “Oh, I forgot to put it in my bag”, where it can be toothbrush, favorite sweater, documents, head. So here are some steps you can follow to reduce the risk to let something behind:

packing

First of all, think at the purpose you’re packing – pleasure or businessJ. It’s better to put first the things you need most, the object of the trip. This would be the first step.

Then the money and the papers you need –IDs and others, if you need. It’s good to have 2-3 pens and some unwritten paper too.

The third step is to put the technology – battery and phone chargers, notebook, mp3-player, i-pod or what you think you’ll need.

Very important are the hygiene products – toothbrush, toothpaste, towel(s), shampoo, shower gel, cosmetics, deodorant. If you think you’d need it, now’s the moment to add some drugs(medicines).

Then you just have to put your clothes too and it’s all ready. Put some comfortable old shoes, the new ones are usually uncomfortable. I recommend to have 2 bags, one with important and valorous things that you’ll probably use until you’ll get to the destination and another with … everything else.

Bon voyage!
